Day 4 of #Blogmas – Easy Protein Mug Cake Recipe

If I haven’t planned my meals out for the day and I’m calculating my macros on the go, I tend to struggle with hitting my required grams per day of protein (sorry, I’m still not #swole enough to figure out the right bodybuilding terminology for not hitting certain macros). Since I love eating cake and I’m a huge fan of making and eating mug cakes that can be made in the microwave (No mess, no fuss? Sign me up!), my trainer shared this easy and delicious protein mug cake recipe with me that makes consuming protein FUN! I love making this recipe to help me finish off my macros because it’s low in fat and carbs and high in protein.

I believe my trainer’s friend stumbled upon this recipe on bodybuilding.com and then passed it on to him, but I’m not 100% certain, so I’m not too sure who to give credit to for this sweet treat. I’m not trying to claim this recipe as my own and I can confirm that it’s DELICIOUS.

protein mug cake

Ingredients:
1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp Stevia
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 egg whites
1 tbsp almond milk or water

Directions:

  1. Mix the protein powder, cocoa powder, Stevia, and baking soda together in a microwavable mug.
  2. Stir in the egg whites and almond milk and whisk with a fork until smooth.
  3. Pop the microwavable mug into the microwave and heat it on high for 1 minute.
  4. Wait a few minutes for the mug to cool down and enjoy!

My tip for this recipe would be to experiment! Try making a mug cake with different flavored protein powders and top it with peanut butter, fruit, ice cream, or whatever else you’re craving (as long as it fits your macros, I suppose). Let me know on Twitter (@pandamoniumpink) or on Instagram (@pandamoniumpinkfit) if you make this easy mug cake recipe!

Keep smiling,
Kels
